It is often very difficult to determine early on how the condition will affect the childs motoric and intellectual development. As the child grows during the first few years, the symptoms may change and once it has stabilized, the treatment for cerebral palsy can be determined. What is Cerebral Palsey (Paulsy)There are parts of the brain handling signals to/from the muscles and coordinating them into smooth movements. With a damage to these areas, a child can start to develop strange movements, often very visible in facial motorics, arm movements etc. The effect of the athetoid CP is often problems with speech, feeding and using hands for fine motoric purposes. The Basal Ganglia is located in the middle of the brain. This area handles the posture and the movements like walking and coordinating the body. With a damage here, the body movements tend to be uncontrolled. Around one in ten of children with cerebral palsey (cerbal palsy) have the athetoid cerebral paulsy, caused by the basal ganglia or the cerebellum brain regions being damaged. |
